How you can shine in a dark world

And let the peace of Christ rule in your hearts, to which indeed you were called in one body. And be thankful.

If you went to a jewelry store to pick out a fine diamond, the jeweler would first bring out the case. Then it’s likely she would turn on a bright and brilliant light so that every facet of the gem could be seen. And lastly, but perhaps most importantly, she would lay down a black velvet cloth on which the diamonds would be placed.

So what’s the purpose of the cloth? Well, it would allow you to see all of the rich hues, the cut, and the symmetry and design of each diamond. It’s the backdrop of the velvet that would bring out the beauty of the diamond.

In much the same way, the darkness of the world in which you and I live serves to bring out the beauty of God’s children. When others look around at all the calamity and suffering in the world, but then see the peace that’s in you and me, they see the beauty of Christ.

The world is a dark place. But by the power of the Holy Spirit in you, you can make God shine in it. Stay true to the peace that’s in you – not fretting because of evil or worrying what will happen to you. Let the peace of God reign in your heart and you’ll shine like a diamond in the world.

LET THE PEACE OF GOD RULE IN YOUR HEART AND YOU’LL SHINE LIKE A DIAMOND AGAINST THE BACKDROP OF A DARK WORLD.
