Jesus said to him, “I am the way, and the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me.”

--John 14:6

At one point or another, every person has to come to grips with the question, “Who is Jesus Christ?” And today I want to help you answer that question in your own heart and life.

It’s true that the miracles of Jesus identify Him as God. They give Him credibility that He was who He said He was. But Jesus didn’t perform them as publicity stunts. He performed them to show you and me something about who He was and what His supernatural power can accomplish in our lives.

Maybe today, you can relate to the disappointment of the couple in the Bible who ran out of wine at the wedding in Canaan (John 2:1-12). By turning water into wine, Jesus was saying to them… and He’s saying to you today, “I am the answer for life’s disappointments… I can turn your disappointments into joy.”

Or perhaps today you’re in need… like the thousands of people Jesus fed with two fish and five loaves of bread (John 6:1-15). In feeding them, Jesus showed them… and He’s showing you today… that He is the answer to your needs and your desires.

And lastly, maybe today you’re going through a dark time of life… and you’d admit that you’re fearful of what the future holds. If so, think about when Jesus walked on the water in the middle of the night (John 6:16-21). By doing this, Jesus showed Peter… just like He shows you and me… that He is the answer in the dark times of life.

The point of the miracles of Jesus Christ for you is this: Whatever you’re going through today, He is your answer… just as we see in today’s verse.

It’s my prayer that you will look to Jesus as the answer to whatever you are facing today!

Jesus performed miracles to show you something about who He was and what His supernatural power can accomplish in your life.

A One-Sided Contest

“And he beheld them, and said, What is this then that is written, The stone which the builders rejected, the same is become the head of the corner? Whosoever shall fall upon that stone shall be be broken; but on whomsoever it shall fall, it will grind him to powder.”
Luke 20:17–18
For decades the Harlem Globetrotters basketball team traveled across the country and even around the world. Night after night they played another team known as the Washington Generals; and night after night, the Globetrotters always won. Thousands of games played between the two teams always ended with the same result. Some nights the score would be closer than others, but the ultimate outcome was never in doubt. People didn’t go to the games to see who would win, but rather to be entertained and amused as the result they always knew was coming unfolded.
In our society there are many who speak out and stand in opposition to God. Militant atheists continue their efforts to have every mention and trace of Him removed from public life. They loudly proclaim that God does not exist and trumpet their defiance of Him. When they actually see Him in person, however, their response will be different—they will fall at His feet and acknowledge His authority. “For it is written, As I live, saith the Lord, every knee shall bow to me, and every tongue shall confess to God” (Romans 14:11).
Though the Christian life is filled with continuing spiritual conflict, the ultimate outcome of the contest has already been decided. God is the victor. None can stand against Him. Even Satan himself will one day be forced to kneel before God, and all who have refused His free offer of salvation will join their leader on their knees before the God they rejected. The struggle between God and man is truly a one sided contest.
Today’s Growth Principle:
Our God is the triumphant victor with all power, and we can trust Him to fight and win every battle.
