Fond thoughts

I want to record the event yesterday as one of my most memorable day at Kids Church. I want also to thank the two moms who voluntarily helped to oversee other kids knowing that my two co-teachers were not around.

I appreciate that kids were so behave yet so engaging during the Bible study. Most of them got “very good” stamp and listened very well. So attentive. My happiness and enjoyment at that moment made me realized --- I did almost forget, parents were waiting and it’s about time to pick-up their kids. Time flies. 😉

Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ!  According to his great mercy, he has caused us to be born again to a living hope through the resurrection of Jesus Christ from the dead, to an inheritance that is imperishable, undefiled, and unfading, kept in heaven for you. --1 Peter 1:3-4 In these troubling times, have you ever wondered if we can really be hopeful about the future?  I want to assure you that it is possible to live with hope, despite what may be going on around us. Because while hope is ultimately about the future, it’s also about the present.  And that’s because we have a living hope. Through the resurrection of Jesus Christ we have hope.  It’s because He lives that hope can reside in your heart if you’re a Christian. And because of that, there is no need to fear the future!  If you are a child of God, you are chosen and called by Him.  You’re not an accident, an afterthought, or a mistake.  You have been in the heart and mind of God forever, and He has already been planning and preparing your future. In fact, God knows the end from the beginning… and everything else in your life.  That’s comforting when we face tough times and when we’re tempted to give up.  It’s encouraging to know that we are never, ever without hope! So today, if you’re tempted to give up on your marriage, don’t!  If you’re thinking about giving up on your kids, don’t!  If you want to give up on your dreams… or even life itself… don’t! Remember that you have a living hope that is working in your past, your present, and your future.  And as the Scripture teaches us in Romans chapter 5, that hope does not disappoint!   TODAY, GIVE GOD THANKS FOR KEEPING YOUR FUTURE IN HIS HANDS! The thief cometh not, but for to steal, and to kill, and to destroy: I am come that they might have life, and that they might have it more abundantly.” John 10:8–10 Stéphane Breitwieser has spent more time visiting art museums than almost anyone else in the world. Though under the terms of his release from prison he is not supposed to enter any museum, the man known as the most prolific art thief in history continues to don disguises and pay visit to view priceless works of art—including many that he once stole. Most of his thefts were carried out in the middle of the day when the guards were distracted. Breitwieser’s stealing became almost a compulsion. Once in Belgium he saw an empty museum display case with a card inside that read “Objects removed for study” and he stole the card! Breitwieser confessed to nearly two hundred robberies across Europe, and in February of 2019 was arrested yet again on suspicion of a museum robbery in France. Jesus described Satan as a thief who delights in taking what is precious to others and claiming it for himself, leaving destruction and death behind. The devil may be portrayed as a comical figure by the world, but he is a real, serious, and deadly foe to every child of God. Yet like a museum without adequate security to protect the treasures inside, many Christians leave the doors of their lives open and unguarded. If we do that, we should not be surprised when Satan takes advantage of our inattention to bring destruction and steal what is most precious to us. There are no “off days” when we can let down our guard. Today's Growth Principle:  The devil greatly desires to destroy your life, and if you give him the smallest chance, he will.

Today is my first message of the year and I would like to share with you the same encouragement I received from Pastor Mike of his last week preaching.

A week before the service, we had a five-day fasting that started last January 7. It talks about “Great Faith”. The Faith of Abraham and Sarah, Moses, Caleb, Rahab, Paul and Jairus. They were all indeed inspiring men and women of the Bible both in Old and New Testament. Proven that these people were absolutely existed and not a fictitious in character experiencing the grace and favor of God, himself.

Before the week ended with our praying and fasting, what caught my interest was the current story of Pastor Mike Manahan (by the way, I’m usually attending the 5pm service and that time since I was late, I decided to attend the 7pm service instead). Despite what happened on him and his family, his faith unto the Lord is still so strong and unwavering. He lost his precious two-month old daughter last year. Although he admitted that it’s difficult to preach about faith when he himself is still recovering from pain and lost, it gave him the courage to share. In fact, during those times, he keeps on praying… ”Lord, help me, give me the strength to overcome my unbelief.”

Moving on with this kind of difficulties in life is so tough and it requires the grace and mercy of God. How to serve God if I am in pain? How to worship God if I am at lost? What will other people say, I am a pastor yet was my faith not good enough? Questions like these only meant that we are human, have feelings (not robot) capable of receiving love, accepting pain. Humans that only need the grace and power to comprehend and understand what God is trying to say. We may not know what His plan at the moment but always remember God is always in control. Take a closer look at Job’s life, nothing compares the pain of losing 10 of your children, losing all of your wealth and even weakening your body with diseases from head to toe. Three major loses. My question is, what have you going through lately? Remember that there was one person who experience those three misfortunes in history at the same time. Be encouraged that despite of it all, Job’s faith is phenomenal! An exceptional faith that we can look back and be inspired to move forward with confidence and grace. Never give up. Look at the brighter side of life.

You are alive! You have a choice. You have you. Your life. The same God who made Job brings back to life is the same God who can bring back the same joy, happiness and love in your life. Believe in your time. Your time is about to come. Be excited! You may be in pain right now but believe that you are in progress. After the pain, there is healing and after healing there is recovery and after recovery, there is restoration. After restoration, you feel the pain no more.

For someone to enjoy the fullness of life, enjoy to experience the full season. The Spring which represents life, summer represents warm, fall represents meekness/quietness, and winter means ending, the culmination of the four seasons. For it to appreciate, it always requires time. Absolute time that is seasoned with love, understanding and grace. =)

Preach the word; be prepared in season and out of season; reprove, rebuke, and encourage with every form of patient instruction. (2 Timothy 4:2)

The Necessity of Sharing the Gospel

“For though I preach the gospel, I have nothing to glory of: for necessity is laid upon me; yea, woe is unto me, if I preach not the gospel! For if I do this thing willingly, I have a reward: but if against my will, a dispensation of the gospel is committed unto me. What is my reward then? Verily that, when I preach the gospel, I may make the gospel of Christ without charge, that I abuse not my power in the gospel.”

1 Corinthians 9:16–18

In 1841, Michael Culbertson left a promising military career for a new line of work. Culbertson, who had graduated sixth in his class from West Point in 1839 and later taught at that school, determined God was calling him to China as a missionary. He left behind the US Army for God’s army. Culbertson was in China when the American Civil War began, and many of those he had trained at West Point were now leaders of the army.

A friend told Culbertson that if he had remained in America and was still part of the army, he would surely have been a general in the war. Culbertson responded, “No doubt I might. Men I drilled are in that position. Among these are Sherman, Thomas, Rosecrans. But there is not one with whom I would be willing to exchange. There is no post of influence on earth equal to that of a man who is permitted to give the Word of God to four hundred million of his fellow men.”

There are many things in this life which are valuable and important and worthy of our effort, but there is one task that above all others focuses on the next life, and that is reaching out to others with the gospel. If we accomplish great temporal things but do nothing which impacts eternity, the world may praise us, but eternity will not.

Today’s Growth Principle: 

There is no more important task for any of us than sharing the Good News of salvation in Jesus Christ.

In the New Testament book of Galatians, Paul again warns: "But even if we or an angel from heaven should preach a gospel other than the one we preached to you, let him be eternally condemned!" (Galatians 1:8).
