Don’t be afraid, for I am with you. Don’t be discouraged, for I am your God. I will strengthen you and help you. I will hold you up with my victorious right hand.
—Isaiah 41:10 NLT
No matter what your fear is, God’s Word says you are not to fear because He is with you. It is just that simple. I am sure the question comes to mind: If God is with me, why do bad things happen? God never promises us trouble-free lives, but He does promise us His presence and the strength (mental, physical, and emotional) we need to get through our troubles.
Whatever the problem is, you can be assured it will pass, God will be with you all the way through it, and you will be stronger and know God better when it is over than before it began.
Power Thought: God is with me at all times, so there is no need to be afraid.
Don’t Delay Doing Good
by Dr. Paul Chappell
“And, behold, there was a certain man before him which had the dropsy. And Jesus answering spake unto the lawyers and Pharisees, saying, Is it lawful to heal on the sabbath day? And they held their peace. And he took him, and healed him, and let him go; And answered them, saying, Which of you shall have an ass or an ox fallen into a pit, and will not straightway pull him out on the sabbath day?”
Luke 14:2–5
Dr. R. B. Ouellette related a lesson that his father taught him by example. He watched as his dad, who served faithfully for many years as a pastor, evangelist, and director of a rescue mission, was asked for prayer about a financial need by a man. After Dr. Ouellette’s father prayed with him, he opened his wallet and gave him money to help meet the need. He later told his son, “I have learned that if I am prompted to help someone and don’t do it right away, I usually don’t ever do it.”
We are not often in life presented with opportunities to help when it is convenient. Usually the greatest needs cross our paths at moments when we are busy, burdened, or in some difficulty ourselves. There are always reasons we can think of why it would be better to help later on. But those excuses often lead to inaction.
It is important to note that Jesus kept God’s law regarding the Sabbath. He did not break the law to do good claiming that the ends justify the means. However, He was not bound by man’s rigid traditions that had been built up around what God commanded, and He did not use the Sabbath as an excuse to avoid doing good to others. Instead, He used it as an example to us of the importance of meeting needs in the lives of others whenever and wherever we can.

Today’s Growth Principle:
Do not miss your chance to help someone in need by waiting for the perfect moment to do so.
