“Verily I say unto you, This generation shall not pass away, till all be fulfilled. Heaven and earth shall pass away: but my words shall not pass away.”
Luke 21:32–33
From the time of Aristotle until the 1800s, the belief in spontaneous generation of life was widespread. The leading scientists thought that living things could come from dead matter. The teaching was commonly accepted and few even thought of challenging it. Then the great scientist Louis Pasteur conducted a series of experiments that conclusively demonstrated that life did not spring from dead matter. By sterilizing and sealing his test subjects, Pasteur showed that despite what had long been confidently believed, life only comes from other living things, just as God described in His Word.
Over and over throughout history the things that many, or even most, people believed have been proven to be false. Seemingly solid scientific and historical knowledge has been shaken as new discoveries have undermined what was previously thought to be certain. Those who trust in the Word of God never have that problem. Though what God said has been challenged by skeptics and doubters through the centuries, it has never wavered and never been proved false. That is because it is completely true.
The Word of God is a reflection of the nature and character of God. It never changes, and it is never in error. There are no mistakes in Scripture, and no one who trusts in the Word of God will ever be shaken when it proves not to be true. That is the basis on which our faith rests—and it is solid and trustworthy. “Nevertheless the foundation of God standeth sure, having this seal, The Lord knoweth them that are his. And, Let every one that nameth the name of Christ depart from iniquity” (2 Timothy 2:19). Faith is only as good as the object of belief, and faith in the Bible is never in vain.
Today’s Growth Principle:
No one has ever gone wrong by believing what God says, for His Word is always faithful and true.
