“There are different spiritual gifts, but the same Spirit gives them. There are different ways of serving, and yet the same Lord is served. There are different types of work to do, but the same God produces every gift in every person.” (1 Corinthians 12:4-6 GW)
In architecture, form follows function. Tell me what you want to use the building for, and I’ll tell you how to build it. But in human beings, it’s the exact opposite. Function follows form. Figure out how God shaped you and how he wired you, what he’s given you in spiritual gifts, heart, abilities, personality, and experience. Then you’ll know what you’re supposed to do with your life.
Did you know that God has specific work for you to do while you’re on this planet? God doesn’t put people on Earth without giving them a life’s work. Your life’s work involves your job or your career. Work is a part of God’s purpose for your life. He didn’t put you on Earth just to be placeholder and use up resources. He put you here to make a contribution, and your contribution is based on your SHAPE.
God never gives you work to do without giving you the ability to do it. That’s why you have spiritual gifts. They’re lying dormant in you until you decide to discover them and develop them.
Many surveys have shown that most Americans are in the wrong job, and it’s because they’re not shaped to do it! They’re in a job primarily for economic reasons, not because it’s fulfilling or they’re good at it or they’re shaped for it.
If you’re in a job that’s not using the shape that God has given you, then get out of it. Life is too short to waste it on a job that doesn’t express who you were made to be. God did not put you on Earth to make money. What matters is what God has shaped you to do.
The Bible says in 1 Corinthians 12:4-6, “There are different spiritual gifts, but the same Spirit gives them. There are different ways of serving, and yet the same Lord is served. There are different types of work to do, but the same God produces every gift in every person” (GW).
Knowing your spiritual gifts answers questions like, “What’s God’s will for my life? What does God want me to do with my life? What kind of job, what kind of career should I have? What should be my ministry? What should be my mission in the world?” Gifts explain where you should be headed. They shape your work.

TODAY’S SCRIPTURE |

“Now Jabez called on the God of Israel, saying, ‘Oh that You would bless me indeed and enlarge my border, and that Your hand might be with me, and that You would keep me from harm that it may not pain me!’ And God granted him what he requested.” |

TODAY’S WORD from Joel and Victoria |
|
God wants your year, your life and everything about you to be successful and wonderful. He wants you to be productive, prosperous and fulfilled in every way. God has so many wonderful blessings in store for you that if you could know them all, you would be overwhelmed with His goodness. In 1 Chronicles, a man named Jabez called out on the Lord and asked for the blessings that he knew God had for him — and don’t you know, God answered his prayer! If Jabez could know God’s favor, then you can today. The answer is simple, but amazing: you can ask the same favor from the Lord. Seek those blessings today.
