But the Lord GOD helps me; therefore I have not been disgraced; therefore I have set my face like a flint, and I know that I shall not be put to shame. --Isaiah 50:7 What does a life of success God’s way produce? It produces a life of significance. A life of godly success is a life of true significance. At the young age of 17, Joseph knew where he was going. God had given him a purpose in life…a purpose he pursued with all his heart. And so it is with the man or woman who lives a significant life. They have a purpose and a reason to get up every day. They are enthusiastic about life! As children of God, we have such a life as we’re on mission for Him! This is what a life of significance is all about. And this sense of calling, this sense of compelling, this sense of purpose makes our life worth living. Is your life driven by a sense of direction every day? Is your life one that is filled with a reason to get up in the morning? It’s my prayer today that you will attack the opportunities that God has put before you this day. Squeeze every moment out of the life that God has promised you! If you do, you will live a life that is truly successful…and significant. A life of success is a life of significance!
by Dr. Paul Chappell
“And the son said unto him, Father, I have sinned against heaven, and in thy sight, and am no more worthy to be called thy son. But the father said to his servants, Bring forth the best robe, and put it on him; and put a ring on his hand, and shoes on his feet:”
Luke 15:21–22
Dr. H. A. Ironside told of an unusual experience he had while preaching in Washington state. He was staying with a family of sheepherders during lambing season. Ironside said, “One morning I was startled to see an old ewe go loping across the road, followed by the strangest looking lamb I had ever beheld. It apparently had six legs, and the last two were hanging helplessly as though paralyzed.” His hosts explained that the lamb had been orphaned and they had a ewe who had lost her lamb to a snakebite. But the ewe had originally rejected the lamb because it was not her own.
Ironside went on, “So the herders skinned the lamb that had died and very carefully drew the fleece over the living lamb. This left the hind-leg coverings dragging loose. Thus covered, the lamb was brought again to the ewe. She smelled it once more and this time seemed thoroughly satisfied and adopted it as her own. It seemed to me to be a beautiful picture of the grace of God to sinners. We are all outcasts and have no claim upon His love. But God’s own Son died for us, and now we who believe are dressed up in the fleece of the Lamb who died. God has accepted us in Him.”
God does not accept us because of anything good we have done, but because the perfect righteousness of Jesus Christ has been placed over our lives like a cloak that covers us completely. That is a symbol of our standing in His family through His grace alone.
Today’s Growth Principle:
Christians are dressed in the righteousness of Christ so that we have full confidence in God’s acceptance of us.
