Noah built an altar to the LORD and took some of every clean animal and some of every clean bird and offered burnt offerings on the altar.

--Genesis 8:20

The very first thing that Noah did after leaving the ark was to worship God. That’s right; his first action on dry land was to give something back to the Lord! Noah offered sacrifices to God as he remembered to put first things first, which was to thank God for His deliverance.

This principle is one we should daily in our own lives. I hope you remember the Lord’s goodness and faithfulness and seek to put Him first in your life. God deserves first place in your heart because He always remembers and provides for you.

I think there are too many times that we fail to thank God for His faithfulness to us.  There is a very convicting and compelling story in Luke 17 of 10 lepers who were healed by Jesus. After being miraculously healed and made complete for the first time in their lives, only 1 of the 10 men came back to Jesus in thankfulness and remembrance.

Would you or I have been like the one that remembered, or like the many that forgot? I  don’t know the answer to that question, but I know what the answer should be. I want to be like the one man who remembered to come back and fall at Jesus’ feet in praise and gratitude.  And I believe you feel the same way.

So make it a point to put God first in everything you do today—and then do the same thing tomorrow and the day after that!

Remember God’s goodness and faithfulness to you every day.

A Place of Torment

by Dr. Paul Chappell
“And he cried and said, Father Abraham, have mercy on me, and send Lazarus, that he may dip the tip of his finger in water, and cool my tongue; for I am tormented in this flame.”
Luke 16:24
Hell is a real place. The fires of Hell are not metaphorical, but literal. Scripture tells us that it was originally prepared not for people, but for Satan. Jesus said, “Then shall he say also unto them on the left hand, Depart from me, ye cursed, into everlasting fire, prepared for the devil and his angels” (Matthew 25:41). The first rebellion against God was not by man but by the devil, and Hell is the result of that rebellion. Yet when men refuse to turn to God, they doom themselves to eternity in that awful place.
It is hard for us to think about people spending eternity in the torment of Hell. It seems unfair to our judgment and sensibility. Yet when we look from God’s vantage point, and realize what is happening when someone rejects salvation by grace through faith in Christ alone—salvation purchased at such an enormous price—we see that Hell is a fitting and just judgment. “Of how much sorer punishment, suppose ye, shall he be thought worthy, who hath trodden under foot the Son of God, and hath counted the blood of the covenant, wherewith he was sanctified, an unholy thing, and hath done despite unto the Spirit of grace?” (Hebrews 10:29).
As children of God, we have a responsibility to those who are lost. God has called and commanded us to proclaim salvation through Jesus Christ to the world. The message that we have been given to share is the only hope of escape from Hell. And it must be a priority for our lives to be faithful witnesses of the gospel.
Today’s Growth Principle:
Remembering the awful reality of Hell motivates us to tell others how they can escape its torment through Jesus.
