CRAFTS
FRUIT LOOP RAINBOW”

Materials: 2 large marshmallows, 1 chenille/fuzzy wire or straw, fruit loops

Instructions:
• Insert the fruit loops in the wire/straw. Start with red, then orange, yellow, green, blue then end with purple.
• Stick the two ends of the wire/straw into the marshmallows.
• Bend the wire/straw to make a rainbow shape.

SAMPLE SPIEL: Today, we will start a new series that will teach us about different objects that will point us back to Jesus. One of these objects is a rainbow. We will learn that a rainbow can remind us of much God loves us.

WELCOME
ACTIVITY
MATERIALS:  twig/branch (Give each child if possible. If not, one per class is good)
Show a branch/twig to the class. Ask the kids what will happen if the twig or branch breaks. (Wait for the kids’ response). Break the twig in your hand and try to put it back together.
SAMPLE SPIEL:
Once a twig is broken, you can’t put it back together. It’s the same thing with a promise. A broken promise if very hard to fix. It’s a good thing that God is someone who keeps his word; it will never be broken.
INTRO TO THE BIBLE LESSON

Do you know what is a promise? (Wait for the kids to respond). A promise is something we make to people; when we say we’re going to do something.)

Why do we keep a promise? (Wait for the kids to respond). We keep promises because it’s the right thing to do. God is also pleased when we keep our promises.

Today, we are going to learn about how God always keeps his promises. God made a special promise to Noah and to all of us.

BIBLE STORY
Genesis 8-9
RAINBOW

Bible Story telling via shadow play or cutouts.

Materials: white cloth, spotlight, cutouts of the characters / props (ark, noah, birds, rainbow, sea, mountain, number 7, number 1, bird with an olive branch, people, animals, altar)

Teachers will use the props based on what the narrator says/describes

SCENE 1: The whole earth was flooded for 40 days and nights. All the animals and people of the earth died just as God said. (BLACK ONLY)

SCENE 2: God saved one family, Noah’s family, but they had to stay in the ark for a whole year until the floodwaters went away (ARK shadow).

SCENE 3: When the floodwaters got lower, the ark rested on top of Mount Ararat (ARK ON TOP OF A MOUNTAIN).

SCENE 4: The ark had been there for many days when Noah opened a window and sent out a raven (ARK ON TOP OF A MOUNTAIN WITH A BIRD). He knew that if it found dry land, it would not return. But the bird kept coming back and forth.

SCENE 5: One day, the bird did not return. So Noah sent another bird, a dove. But the dove couldn’t find a branch to rest on so it returned to the ark (ARK ON TOP OF A MOUNTAIN WITH A BIRD). After 7 days (NUMBER 7), Noah sent out the dove again. This time, it returned with an olive branch (BIRD WITH AN OLIVE BRANCH)

SCENE 6: The water is almost gone but Noah stayed in the ark for one more month. (ARK ON TOP OF A MOUNTAIN AND NUMBER 1). When God said that it was time to leave, Noah opened the ark and let his family and animals out (ARK WITH PEOPLE AND ANIMALS ON THE SIDE)

SCENE 7: To thank God for saving him and his family, Noah built an altar and offered a sacrifice to the Lord. (NOAH WITH AN ALTAR, ARK ON THE SIDE)

SCENE 8: Then God made a special promise to Noah, his sons and all who would come after them. God promised that he would never send a flood to destroy the earth. Then God put a rainbow in the sky as a sign on his promise. (ARK ON THE SIDE, RAINBOW ON ONE SIDE)

DISCUSSION
Let’s Talk About It!

(Teachers, sit with your children so you can easily pray with and for them as you do your huddle.)

à How many days did Noah and his friends stay in the ark?

à What animal/s did Noah send out to check if there is land?

à What did God place in the sky as a sign of his promise?

POINT TO JESUS
God made a promise to Noah and to each of us—God promised never to flood the entire world again. God’s promises are special, and we can always trust them. The great thing is that God’s promises are not just for Noah—they’re for everyone who loves God!

His greatest promise is to send us his son Jesus. If we believe in Jesus, our sins will be forgiven and we can be with him in heaven. Now that is a great promise!

OPTIONAL ACTIVITY
REMEMBER THE COLOR

MATERIAL: red paper, orange paper, yellow paper, blue paper, green paper, violet paper

Lay the paper on the floor or table. As you display the colorful paper, share to the kids how God used the rainbow to remind Noah of his promise. Remind the kids the name of each color. Ask the kids to cover their eyes while you take away one or two colored paper. When they open their eyes, ask them if they remember the colors that you took away. Praise them if they get it right. If they guess incorrectly, ask the kids to say, GOD ALWAYS REMEMBERS HIS PROMISES!

Dear Lord,

Thank you for you always keep your promises. Thank you that I can trust your word. Amen.
