The Bible Does the Impossible in Your Life

The Bible Does the Impossible in Your Life

BY RICK WARREN — SEPTEMBER 24, 2014

40-Days-in-the-Word-Devotional
“He chose to give us birth through the word of truth.” (James 1:18a NIV)
God wants to use his Word to give you a fresh start in life.
Without God’s Word, we could never be saved. We wouldn’t be headed for Heaven. We wouldn’t know about Jesus’ death on the cross. We wouldn’t know about God’s purpose for our lives.
Without the Bible, we can’t know God.
God wants to give you all of that — but it starts with his Word. Through the Bible, God recreates our lives. When I feel like I’m at the end of my rope, God uses the Bible to give me a fresh start, a do-over. The Bible calls it being “born again.” James 1:18 says, “He chose to give us birth through the word of truth” (NIV).
The Bible is often compared to a seed. Once the Bible takes root in your heart, it begins to sprout and grow and bear fruit. As God’s Word does that, God changes your life for the better.
Jesus says this in John 6:63 about his Word: “The words I have spoken to you — they are full of the Spirit and life.” God’s Word isn’t just words on a page. It’s spirit and life. It’s spiritual power. His Word can transform society and history. It can do the impossible. It can change your life!
D.L. Moody, a famous Chicago pastor from 100 years ago, said, “The Bible was not given to increase our knowledge; the Bible was given to change our lives.”
How do you need your life changed? What part of your life do you feel powerless to change?
The Bible says the Word of God can change things that you cannot change on your own. Make God’s Word a regular part of your life, and get ready for the impossible!
Talk It Over
  • Have you been a Christian for a long time? How has your life produced fruit because of your relationship with Jesus?
  • How have you seen God’s Word change lives?
  • What impossible thing do you believe God can do in your life?

TODAY’S SCRIPTURE
“For God’s gifts and his call can never be withdrawn.”
(Romans 11:29, NLT)
TODAY’S WORD from Joel and Victoria
When you think about your future, what do you see in your mind’s eye? Maybe at one time you were excited about your life — you had big goals and big dreams, but you went through some disappointments or life didn’t turn out the way you planned and now you’ve just settled where you are. Understand, God’s plan for your life didn’t go away just because you had some disappointments and setbacks or because somebody treated you unfairly. God didn’t write you off just because you made some poor decisions. No, He knew every mistake you’d ever make; He knew every person who would wrong you, and He still called you. He still designed a perfect plan for your life. No matter what’s happened in your past, God’s plan for your good remains. He still has a bright future in store for you. If you will get your hopes back and get your vision in line with God’s Word, then the rest of your life will be the best of your life! Keep standing, keep believing and get a vision for your future because the Lord has amazing things in store for you!
A PRAYER FOR TODAY
Father, thank You for loving me and orchestrating every detail of my life. Thank You for calling me and giving my life purpose. I choose to shake off the past; I choose to forgive those who have hurt me, and I choose to keep my eyes on You in Jesus’ name. Amen.
