The Power of the Better-half

The Power of the Better-half

Written by Meg

I’ve seen many couples in my life and it impressed me how they’re in-sync with each other.  Happy together as if everything is like heaven-on-earth. This is also true as I observed undoubtedly that in every man’s success there is a woman behind. I should say a woman described in Proverbs 33. On the contrary, the fall of a man is also a woman.

Recalling the life of King Solomon, I admired him for his wisdom yet as he grew old, it made me feel very disappointed how this great king became so blind. The Bible says …his wives turned his heart after other gods, and his heart was not fully devoted to the LORD his God, as the heart of David his father had been. For Solomon went after Ashtoreth the goddess of the Sidonians and after Milcom the detestable idol of the Ammonites.  Solomon did what was evil in the sight of the LORD, and did not follow the LORD fully, as David his father had done.… (1 Kings 11:4-6). I can see clearly how these chosen wives made King Solomon so blind. Even in the Old Testament, people believed in many gods. Comprehending this thought, it scares me. If God didn’t like any man to worship other gods, Isn’t it more sinful to think to become one of the gods other than God himself?

In today’s generation, many unmarried couples stay together. Many believed it’s fine for two to be together in one roof as long as they’re both happy. These two people are not only wicked but also blind; because, if someone of them can see into the future they will not be able to fall easily into the pit of iniquitous living despite of the temporary shared happiness. Temporary means mortal life. This life we lived is not eternal that goes beyond after death. As long as their hearts are happy, it’s enough. The question is, isn’t it really enough as I ask myself.

Well, rationally speaking, it’s not right. It’s sinful. The heart is deceitful above all things and if we follow our feelings more than our intellect, it (the heart) will become desperately sick, incurable. It’s like when you lost your eyesight, there’s no other way for you to see again. All the things you see wrong will always be right but always remember being right cannot be made wrong; but if a person is absolutely blind, all wrongs can be made so right (just like what happened to the wisest man on earth King Solomon). This simply describes how powerful your better-half can be.

As I end this note, I realize that I carefully consider choosing my future better-half wisely because I might be ended in eternal heaven with God or immortal hell together with Satan, the beast, false teachers and false prophets. Life is so fleeting; studying, searching and meditating on the Word of God is a life-enriching experience. There is no other best way but to prepare for a life worth-living, holy, pleasing and acceptable to God while waiting for the powerful better-half; if not, be patient; be blessed because at the end of your life, it is not your spouse, your kids, your family who you will be meeting to get to heaven but the one and only God who created you to become man and woman He loved most and not one of the gods you like to become. God Himself won’t like it. (see Isaiah 43:10)
